The JRCAS team at the ECAS2023: African Futures in Cologne

The 9th European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) took place from May 31 to June 3 at the University of Cologne (Universität zu Köln). The conference was also attended by researchers from the Jagiellonian Research Center for African Studies: prof. Robert Kłosowicz, prof. Joanna Bar, prof. Maciej Kurcz, dr. Joanna Mormul and PhD candidate Agata Markowska. One of the conference panels devoted to socio-political transformations in the African Great Lakes Region (Poli42: Socio-political transformations in the African Great Lakes Region in the postcolonial perspective), co-chaired by Dr. Joanna Mormul and Dr. Kateřina Ženková Rudincová, was a joint initiative of the Jagiellonian Research Center for African Studies and our partner institution, Department of Human Geography and Regional Development, University of Ostrava. The topic of the panel referred to the project implemented as part of a mini-grant financed by the Strategic Program Initiative of Excellence at the Jagiellonian University (ID.UJ).

The European Conference on African Studies (ECAS) is the most prestigious European African studies conference, a cyclical meeting place for Africanist scholars from virtually all continents. Its next edition will take place in East-Central Europe - in 2025 we invite you to the Charles University in Prague!
