Cooperation with the Africanist Museum in Olkusz

We are pleased to announce that in December 2022 a memorandum of understanding was signed between the Faculty of International and Political Studies of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow and the Municipal Cultural Center in Olkusz regarding cooperation between the Jagiellonian Research Center for African Studies (an interfaculty unit co-created by the Faculty of International and Political Studies) and the Africanist Museum in Olkusz (a unit within the Municipal Cultural Center).

The agreement aims at cooperation in the field of African studies in the scope of research, educational, and organizational activities. As part of it, it will be possible carrying out joint research and educational projects, organizing workshops, seminars, academic and popular science conferences, as well as exhibitions. There is also a possibility of student internships in the Africanist Museum in Olkusz. As part of the implementation of the agreement, joint efforts will also made to apply for funds from external entities.

Within the framework of cooperation, in 2023 we are planning student internships, during which the students of the Faculty of International and Political Studies will help in developing a catalog of the collections possessed by the Africanist Museum in Olkusz. Further steps will also be taken regarding a planned exhibition under the auspices of the Jagiellonian Research Center for African Studies, devoted to the everyday life and culture of the Pygmy people in the Central African Republic.
