The Guild-ARUA meeting in Cape Town

On November 3-4, 2022, in Cape Town (South Africa) took place a meeting of representatives of The Guild of European Research-Intensive Universities, of which the Jagiellonian University is a member, with representatives of the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA). The summit was held in the hospitable walls of the University of Cape Town. The meeting was attended by representatives of over 30 universities from Europe and Africa. The Jagiellonian University was represented by the Secretary of the Jagiellonian Research Center for African Studies, Dr. Joanna Mormul. At the plenary sessions and in working groups new opportunities to develop institutional partnerships between European and African universities and to increase the long-term research capacity of African universities were discussed. The meetings began with the launch of the ARUA network report - ARUA Profiles Report that presents the research and infrastructure potential of African universities. At the end of the two-day event, the attendees were joined online by the representative of the European Commission, Maria-Cristina Russo (Director for Global Approach and International Collaboration).

It is worth noting that The Guild-ARUA meeting in Cape Town was preceded by two-day deliberations, during which representatives of The Guild visited the Stellenbosch University.
