Una Europa Week in Helsinki – roundtable with high-level representatives of African universities

As a part of the Una Europa Week at the University of Helsinki (May 30 - June 3, 2022), on June 2, representatives of 11 Una Europa partner universities met with high-level representatives of six African universities (Université Cheikh Anta Diop de Dakar, University of Ghana, University of Witwatersrand, Université de Kinshasa, University of Nairobi, Universidade Eduardo Mondlane). During the meeting possible directions and forms of future cooperation were discussed.

The Jagiellonian University was represented by the Plenipotentiary of the Rector of the Jagiellonian University for cooperation within the framework of Una Europa, prof. dr. hab. Stanisław Kistryn and the Secretary of the Jagiellonian Research Center for African Studies, Dr. Joanna Mormul.

It is worth noting that the partnership with the African continent was one of the leading themes of Una Europa Week in Helsinki, as evidenced by the debate Una Europa Talk - Shaping our future together - Europe and Africa, solving global challenges, which took place with the participation of Prof. Felix Dakora, President of the African Academy of Sciences, Johanna Sumuvuori, State Secretary in the Finnish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, former Finnish Minister of Justice Tuija Brax and Prof. James Smith of the University of Edinburgh.

 

Una Europa is an association of 11 leading European research universities, one of the founding members of which is the Jagiellonian University in Krakow, more about Una Europa, its promoted activities, and projects on the Una Europa website of the Jagiellonian University.
