Debate organised by the International Relations Students’ Society: Rwanda – a Difficult Past, a Difficult Present. A State on the Road to Stability

On 6th April 2016 at the Jagiellonian University Faculty of International and Political Studies, an open meeting took place entitled Rwanda – a Difficult Past, a Difficult Present. A State on the Road to Stability, organised by the International Relations Students’ Society. The experts who gave presentations during the conference included Prof. Joanna Bar of the Pedagogical University of Cracow and Monika Różalska, M.A., doctoral student at the Faculty of International and Political Studies, representing the Jagiellonian Centre for African Studies. The main topic of the meeting was the social, political and economic situation in contemporary Rwanda and the factors influencing the stability and development of the country. In her presentation, Prof. Bar focused on the problem of leadership, while Ms Różalska discussed local solutions and the application of indigenous traditions for social and economic development. The doctoral student also presented photographs from her research trips to Rwanda. The presentation and slideshow served as a basis for further discussions.
